Inakaya (New York City): Re-visit

If you have read my previous post on Inakaya, you would know that we won a USD$50 dining coupon :)  Since we were only in NYC for a week, we returned before we left so we could use the coupon for another great meal :P

We pretty much know what we wanted already so the ordering process was a breeze.  We were a little embarrassed since most of the staff remembered us as the group who won the coupon (less than a week ago...) but oh well.

Vegetable tempura encore!

Shishito Pepper
I almost always get these at a izakaya but forgot about them last time
So we will try them these time :)
P1520315
Eringi Mushrooms - Meaty!
I wish they offer portobello too, but I guess that won't be very Japanese?
P1520311
Grilled gingko again
P1520332
and Bronzini too!
somehow, it wasn't as good as last time
maybe it was the "wow" factor?  (i.e., expected too much?)

nevertheless, if you compare the fish to the last visit
it's exactly the same!!!
(the bends, the cuts, everything!)

We arrived a little later this time so we were able to witness the whole rice cake pounding event.  The crowd seemed more enthusiastic this time also... (more children perhaps?)  We also got to taste the rice cake itself!

Let's just say I am glad that we were only given a tiny piece... :P

We really enjoyed both of our visits and would recommend this restaurant if you love Japanese food but wanted to try something besides sushi and/or ramen. :)
